Characteristics of Line:
1. A line can be defined as a straight set of points
that extend in opposite directions.
2. It has only length which is infinite.
3. It has no width.
4. It has no thickness or height.
5. It is one-dimensional.
6. It has no ends in both directions (infinite).
There are two different kinds of Lines. They are:
1) Straight line 2) Curved line
Straight line: A line that extends to both sides till infinity and has no curves is called a straight line.
Characteristics of Straight Line:1) It runs in Straight or one direction.
2) It has only length which is infinite.
3) It has no width.
4) It has no thickness or height.
5) It is one-dimensional.
6) It has no ends in both directions (infinite)
Curved line:
Characteristics of Curved Line:
1) It not run in straight or one direction.
2) It has no width.
3) It has no thickness or height.
4) It is one-dimensional.
5) It has no ends in both directions.(infinite)
Line segment
In figure, AB is a line segment
Line segment: A line segment is a part of line which has two fixed endpoints.
Characteristics of Straight Line:
1) It has a beginning point and an ending point.
2) It has particular length.
Types of straight Lines
In geometry, Straight lines may be drawn in different directions and are given five names:
1) Horizontal lines
2) Vertical lines
3) Oblique or slanting lines
4) Perpendicular lines
5) Parallel lines
Horizontal lines
1) Horizontal lines: when a line runs from left to right in a straight direction, it is called a Horizontal line.
Vertical Lines
2) Vertical lines: When a line runs from top to bottom in a straight direction, it is called a Vertical line.
Oblique or Slanting Lines
3)Oblique or Slanting Lines: When a line drawn in a slanting positing position, it is called Oblique or Slanting line.
Perpendicular lines
4) Perpendicular lines: When two lines meet or intersect at an angle of 90degrees or at a right angle, then they are perpendicular to each other.
Parallel Lines
Parallel lines: When two straight lines dont meet or intersect at at any point, even at infinity, then they are parallel to each other.
Suppose two lines AB and CD are parallel, then it is represented as AB‖CD.
